What does an after hours doctor in Joondalup do?
Our doctors provide home visit care to patients in the Joondalup region during the after hours period when most GPs are not available. They are able to review a large number of medical problems and in most cases can prevent patients from having to attend the Joondalup Health Campus Emergency Department. Before attending your home for a consultation, our doctor will give you a call to discuss your condition and offer initial treatment advice. This is a valuable additional service that are doctors provide for free and goes a long way to reducing anxiety of patients, parents and carers. Our doctors carry a large selection of medications to get your treatment started so you don’t need to worry about heading to a late night pharmacy. After your visit, your doctor will send a copy of your consultation notes to your regular GP so they can take over your care.

What is an after hours doctor?
An after hours doctor is a registered medical practitioner that provides care to patients when most GPs are not available. The majority of our doctors work a main job elsewhere and locum at Night Doctor. Most are local GPs or GPs in training. All doctors have significant experience in the Australian healthcare system and must meet strict selection criteria. How much does it cost?
We bulk bill all patients with DVA Gold cover and those who live in Aged Care Facilities and Disability Care Homes. There is a small out-of-pocket fee for all other patients. Our doctors carry an EFTPOS machine with them to take payment, and you can choose to split payments across cards if this is helpful. We do not accept or carry cash. The consultation must take place over a video call rather than a standard phone call.
The rebate is significantly higher than for the standard rebates. So while the total fee you pay is higher your rebate is also higher by the same amount and the out of pocket gap amount is unchanged.
Urgent Telehealth Video consult after 11pm: $210.75
Non-urgent conditions
If the Doctor cannot justify to Medicare that your condition is at risk of deterioration before 8am, they cannot charge the urgent item and the fees for consultations before 11pm will apply instead.
Determining what is urgent is difficult, as very little guidance is provided by Medicare. Our receptionists can run your issue past the doctor prior to your consultation and can let you know if you will be bulk billed or a fee will apply.
