Perth’s highest quality home visit urgent care doctor service

CALL TO BOOK 1300 644 483

It’s sometimes difficult to know how long you can afford to wait to see a doctor. Some medical problems cannot wait for a GP appointment the next day. But many of these don’t require a visit to the Emergency Department. If you need to see a doctor in the next few hours, have you considered a review from an urgent care GP? Our home visit GP urgent care service looks after non-life threatening medical problems that cannot wait to be reviewed by the GP the next day. Common examples are musculoskeletal injuries, abrasions or minor lacerations and illnesses of the eye, ear, nose and throat.

When to use urgent care doctors?

Urgent care doctors care for patients with acute medical conditions which can’t wait to see the GP the next day. They do not provide emergency medical treatment or look after chronic health conditions. Examples of acute medical conditions that an urgent care GP can treat include:

Common urgent conditions

Gastroenteritis Skin infections
Urinary tract infections Falls. Minor injuries inc. minor head injuries
Respiratory infections Abdominal pain
Unwell child assessment. Children with fevers Headaches and migraines
Body aches and pains. Back pain and muscle strains Acute worsening of chronic conditions
Ear infections Vertigo

When to go to emergency?

If you think your condition requires emergency treatment you should attend your local Emergency Department or call an ambulance. Examples of emergency medical problems include:

  • Chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Strokes
  • Severe head injuries
  • Snake bites
  • Severe bleeding

What to expect from urgent care

Night Doctor is an urgent care service that visits patients in their homes, reducing burden on local Emergency Departments. We provide a high quality service that ensures patients receive the optimal care they deserve.

How it works

After booking with our service, your doctor will call you to discuss your condition. After assessing your medical problem, your doctor will advise whether your are safe to wait for a home visit, or instead need to attend the Emergency Department for higher levels of care. You don’t need to worry about working this out for yourself. You will be informed of the time your doctor expects to arrive at your house, and will be notified about any unexpected delays. Your urgent care doctor carries a range of starter medications so you don’t need to worry about visiting the pharmacy, and they will provide a summary of their medical assessment to your regular GP after the visit.

Urgent conditions

After 11pm there is a Medicare rebate for all patients with urgent conditions. In order to access this rebate Medicare requires the Doctor to justify that you have an urgent condition (i.e your condition is at risk of deteriorating before 8am the next morning). The consultation must take place over a video call rather than a standard phone call.

The rebate is significantly higher than for the standard rebates. So while the total fee you pay is higher your rebate is also higher by the same amount and the out of pocket gap amount is unchanged.

Urgent Telehealth Video consult after 11pm: $210.75

Non-urgent conditions

If the Doctor cannot justify to Medicare that your condition is at risk of deterioration before 8am, they cannot charge the urgent item and the fees for consultations before 11pm will apply instead.

Determining what is urgent is difficult, as very little guidance is provided by Medicare. Our receptionists can run your issue past the doctor prior to your consultation and can let you know if you will be bulk billed or a fee will apply.

We understand this situation is not ideal but we are trying to do the best we can to help patients and operate within Medicare billing guidelines.
